Film Lovers in Carroll County (FLICC) have chosen four movies for the February Foreign Film Festival at the Carroll Arts Center. Films will be shown every Friday in February at 8 p.m. on. All will have English subtitles. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for CCAC members, students 18 and under and seniors 60 and over. Series tickets are available for $20-$25. McDaniel College sponsors the series and students and faculty are admitted free.

“Departures” Japanese (2008)
An out-of-work cellist working as a “encoffineer,” a funeral professional who prepares bodies for burial, begins to perfect the art of “Nokanshi,” acting as a gatekeeper between life and death. PG, 130 minutes.

“La Vie En Rose” French (2007)
An Award-winning biopic illuminating the life of singer Edith Piaf. Marion Cotillard portrays the famous French cabaret performer. PG-13,140 minutes.

“Lemon Tree” Arabic/Hebrew/French (2007)
Insight into the ongoing struggles of the Middle East as seen through the eyes of a Palestinian widow who stands up against the Israeli defense minister when he issues orders to uproot her beloved lemon trees. PG,106 minutes.

Friday, February 26
“The Way Home” Korean (2002)
Seven-year-old Sang-woo is left with his grandmother in a remote village while his mother looks for work. He lashes out in anger, believing that he has been abandoned. Eventually his mother returns for him, but by then he has been transformed by his grandmother’s boundless patience and devotion. PG, 80 minutes.
