Olivia Bratsis, 12, of Westminster, a student at East Middle School,won Carroll Magazine’s 2013 Egg Drop contest on March 23 with a sea urchin-like capsule containing a raw egg, dropped from 25- and 50-foot heights. A mobile lift donated by the Sunbelt Co. of Westminster provided the drop platform in the parking lot behind KohnCreative at 83 East Main Street, Westminster.
The capsule was constructed of a hollowed-out styrofoam sphere, covered with spine-like soda straws that helped absorb the impact of the drops – successfully.
