This six week workshop series is available FREE for people who have Chronic Conditions like Heart Disease, Arthritis, MS, COPD, etc. and their families, friends and caregivers. Learn how to choose a healthier lifestyle, take control of your health, and to self-manage your condition by focusing on problem-solving, decreasing stress, making informed treatment decisions, managing symptoms and setting weekly goals. Program does not require a doctor’s order or replace your existing treatment.
This annual exhibition highlights the best undergraduate work, such as painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Jurors for the exhibition are Nicole Ringel, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from McDaniel in 2016, and Turkish-born artist Dilay Koçogulla. Both Ringel and Koçogulla are Baltimore-based artists pursuing their Master of Fine Arts degrees from UMBC.
14th Annual Seniors on the Go – An Aging & Disabilities Expo, sponsored by the Carroll County Commissioners and the Bureau of Aging & Disabilities. With over 130 vendors, this is a one-stop shop for information, products and services for older adults, people with disabilities, Veterans, and for those that care for them. Free demonstrations, seminars, health screenings and assessments, complementary therapies, vendor prize bingo and shuttle from the parking area. Lunch is available for purchase.
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc masterfully blends the fiddling traditions of Norway, Sweden and the Shetland Islands. They have swiftly gained a reputation for their gripping and unique style, with a firm focus on tradition while using harmony, rhythm, riffs and bass lines that enthrall.
McDaniel’s Department of Theatre Arts presents a student-written sketch comedy show featuring all original pieces developed by students in the “Comedy Sketch Writing and Performance” class taught by theatre arts lecturer Gené Fouché. The production is inspired by Second City, “Saturday Night Live” and classic sketch artists, such as Nichols and May, Carol Burnett and Sid Caesar.
This annual event features a reading by American poet Jan Beatty. Beatty, director of the Master of Fine Arts program at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, won the 2018 Paterson Poetry Prize. Her books include “Jackknife: New and Selected Poems,” “The Switching/Yard,” “Red Sugar,” “Boneshaker,” and “Mad River.”
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is an opportunity for women, men and families to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes & effects of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Rape Crisis (RCIS) asks men and women to walk one mile in women’s shoes through downtown Westminster. NEW THIS YEAR – The walk will start and finish at Westminster City Park.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a play on the phrase, “You can’t understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes”. Through education and advocacy, RCIS hopes to get the community talking about a subject that is often difficult to discuss: gender relations and sexual violence.
Masterworks Chorale presents “Songs of Peace and Rejoicing” on Sunday, May 5 at 3 p.m. in McDaniel College’s (Big) Baker Chapel. The concert features works from Praetorius, Brahms, Thomson, and others. Tickets and information are available at MCCC, Ticketleap, or the Carroll Arts Center.
