120 Entries Expected For Arts Council Show
The Carroll County Arts Council, in partnership with the Carroll County Artists Guild, will host the 5th Annual Members Art Exhibit, starting August 16. More than 120 entries are expected for the exhibition, which will be continue to September 29.
The show will feature a wide range of styles and mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and fine crafts. Most works will be for sale.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 16, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the Carroll County Artists Guild.

Arts Center’s “Friends of Film” Debuts with Indy “Big Night”
The Carroll County Arts Council has a new arm: “Friends of Film.” The group, currently composed of 25 volunteers and chaired by Susan Thornton, is charged with selecting a film a month to be screened at the Arts Center, enhanced by discussions, guest moderators and refreshments. The group’s first selection is the 1996 independent film, “Big Night,” scheduled to be shown on Saturday, September 15th at 7 pm. at the Carroll Arts Center.
The award-winning film has a cast of luminaries, including Isabella Rossellini, Tony Shalhoub, Minni Driver, Marc Anthony, Allison Janney and Stanley Tucci. The movie comes alive with the sights and sounds of cooking as a failing restaurant creates a feast of a lifetime for one special night.
The film is rated R and runs 109 minutes. Tickets are $6 for Adults and $5 for CCAC members, seniors and students Under 18. The Carroll Arts Center is located at 91 West Main Street in downtown Westminster. For more information or to purchase tickets with a credit card, call 410/848-7272.
“On Golden Pond” Shows August 23
The poignant film, “On Golden Pond,” written by Westminster’s own Ernest Thompson, will be screened on Thursday, August 23, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Carroll Arts Center.
Ernest Thompson was a 1967 graduate of Westminster High School and has an honorary doctorate from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). He won the Academy, Gold Globe and Writers Guild Awards for the screenplay of “On Golden Pond,” which starred Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda.
The 1981 film is Rated PG and runs 109 minutes. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for CCAC members, seniors and students under 18. The screening will be sponsored by M&T Bank. For information or ticket purchase: (410) 848-7272.
