The Carroll County Arts Council is thrilled to welcome back the acclaimed Teelin Irish Dance Company for two live performances. The Teelin Irish Dance Company, directed by Maureen Gately, fuses traditional and contemporary Irish dance and music in an exciting new way. “The Chieftains” at Strathmore Hall Wednesday, March 4
The Carroll County Arts Council will host a bus trip to Strathmore Hall in Rockville. The mists and myths of Ireland in the music of this legendary group have made unofficial Irishmen of fans the world around. Tickets for the trip are $85 ($80 for CCAC members) and include excellent promenade seats, motor coach transportation, light snack on the return trip and driver gratuity. The bus will depart at 6 p.m. and return at 11:30 p.m. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling 410-848-7272 and paying with a credit card. Barleyjuice on Tap Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 at 8 p.m.
Currently one of the most adored Celtic rock bands in the USA, the five kilted Yanks known as Barleyjuice blend a mix of traditional Irish music with their own brand of Celtic rock. Barleyjuice is a rowdy bunch of hooligans who were born out of rock ’n’ roll, reared on British Invasion, country and western, and progressive rock, and landed somewhere in the North Channel with a penchant for all things Celtic. Kyf Brewer, Keith “Swanny” Swanson, Eric Worthington, Alice O’Quirke and John Tracey thoroughly entertain their audiences in what they describe as “their playground of musical misbehavior” filled with the sounds of bagpipes, fiddle, accordion, mandolin, bouzouki, whistle, piano, harmonica, bass and drums. The performance is sponsored by Westminster dentist Dr. Patrick Gallagher. Wine, beer and snacks will be available for sale at both concerts. The Historical Society of Carroll County is offering the next best experience to time traveling. Children discover what it was like to live in Carroll County in the 1800’s. They’ll experience living on farms, learning in a one room school house, finding food, traveling on trains, delivering rural free mail, playing school yard games and much more. The program focuses on a different topic each month and features creative activities, songs, and crafts. Classes are $6 each; youths who register for all six classes receive a discounted rate of $5 per class and a free gift at each class. Pre-registration is required.
