Tammy Lofink started the nonprofit Rising Above Addiction on the one-year anniversary of the death of her son Robert Mason Lofink, who died from an overdose. Rising Above Addiction raises funds for treatment.

What do you love most about doing business in Carroll County?

I love the supportive nature of our business community. It circles back to helping people become productive members of society.

The business community has rallied around Rising Above Addiction to provide donations that make our work possible. Businesses have sponsored fundraisers and events. The impact is that donations go directly into getting people into treatment.

Donations help my nonprofit pay for treatment center admission and co-pays; fill the gaps that insurance does not cover; assist with clothing and food; assist with care navigation; and raise awareness of the addiction epidemic.

My book, Reclaiming My Life, tells how addiction impacted my family. The book is about my journey of loss and healing. The support of the community is also included in the book.
