Dear Reader:
It has been said that, even in the worst of economic environments, creative people see new and innovative opportunities.
Consequently, you may have noticed that, with this issue of Carroll Magazine, we have made some changes.
The most obvious is size. While many publications are cutting down on the number of pages, we have increased ours by 12: from 84 to 96 (including the covers).
At the same time, we have increased the number of columns in many of our layouts from two to three, making them easier to read and enabling greater flexibility of design.
In order to make the aforementioned changes affordable, we have very slightly shrunk the dimensions of the magazine. It will now be 7-7/8 inches by 10-5/8 inches; the same as TIME magazine.
We have also formalized three regular editorial departments: Business, Health, and Home (previewed in our April/May issue), where you will find regular coverage of local activities in those fields. As we evolve, it is likely that we will add other departments to the mix.
And we have changed the name of our “Collage” section to “Currents,” which we feel more accurately describes the dynamic nature of events – past and future – in Carroll County.
The editorial outlines of Carroll Magazine will remain the same. We will try, as we have in the past, to reflect the flavor of life in Carroll County and its environs, its seasonal accents, personalities, activities, cultural and social events and opportunities for education, entertainment and service to the community.
Beyond that, we are expanding our circulation base to 50,000, which in a county with 61,788 households, means that we will be reaching some 100,000 readers near saturation.
We hope you like the new Carroll Magazine and will let us know, not only what you think of it, but what your interests are and what you are doing in the county.
Matt and Josh Kohn
