Every day after school, kids fill the Boys & Girls Club of Westminster to do homework, play in the Games Room and Gymnasium, but more importantly, these kids are having fun in a positive environment. The Boys & Girls Club, an after-school and summer enrichment program, provides experiences in Character & Leadership, Healthy Lifestyles, Arts, Sports & Recreation and Education that equips members with the ability to make a difference in the world around them.

Why do you think having women in leadership roles is important?
In any organization it is important to maximize strengths, recognize weaknesses and work together as a team to move forward. Having women in leadership roles at the Boys & Girls Club has contributed to our success because we have created a team focused on collaboration. We strive to put the right people in the right seats on the bus where they can use their strengths to succeed. As women, we bring a different perspective to leadership, often forming relationships that are more transformational and interactive. When working with youth, we tend to lead with humor and structure, tempered with kindness and patience. As women, we serve as role models to our kids and inspire them to embrace their unique talents and gifts. For us, the question is not why women – it’s why not women?

What do you love most about doing business in Carroll County?
Cooperation is the name of the game in Carroll County. We are lucky to work in such a collaborative environment where everyone supports each other. This support translates into opportunities to maximize our strengths and use them to benefit the County as a whole. As female leaders this culture allows us to feel valued and respected. This unconditional support has made it possible for us to BUILD a new Boys & Girls Club that expands our outreach and creates a lasting impact on our County’s youth. We can’t wait to see what comes next!
