An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe

May 19 @ 2:00 pm

Baltimore, MD – Ballet Embody, Maryland’s trailblazing contemporary ballet company, invites audiences on an immersive journey into the haunting tales of Maryland’s beloved poet during “An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe,” a spellbinding production taking place on May 18th & 19th at Carroll Community College.
Step into the enigmatic world of Poe as Ballet Embody brings to life the spine-chilling narratives of “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “Annabel Lee,” and, the evening’s feature ballet, “The Masque of the Red Death.” The stage becomes a canvas for Poe’s brilliance, and audiences are in for a rare treat—a balletic exploration of horror and artistry.
Artistic director Emily Runkle, a proud Baltimore native, expresses her reverence for Poe’s work: “Poe’s view of human behavior, paired with his impeccable writing technique, created some of the most famous poems and gothic horror stories of all time. His atmospheric style is perfect for the stage, and creating ballets in tribute to him is long overdue!” Ballet Embody adds their own spin on his story “The Masque of the Red Death” by exploring the impending doom by delving into the seven deadly sins—a bold and innovative take on Poe’s classic tale.
