Pies are as much an American food tradition as turkey on Thanksgiving and grilling on the fourth of July. Many people can attach specific family memories to eating a certain type of pie. Maybe it was grandma’s pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, or pecan pie for dads birthday, lemon meringue pie at the Memorial Day picnic, or maybe it was learning how to make a strawberry rhubarb pie with your mom and aunts one summer weekend.
According to the American Pie Council, pie is a preferred dessert not only during the holiday season, but also on other special occasions throughout the year, with 67 percent of respondents considering it a staple at family gatherings.
Not that we need an excuse to eat pie, but lucky for us, January 23 is designated as National Pie Day. Carroll Magazine challenges you to make a point to try a new type of pie on January 23 and then tell us if you recommend it. We’d even love to see your pie selfies.
