Need to find a flower arrangement that will warm your significant other’s heart without leaving your finances out in the cold?

We contacted 14 florists at random in the county and asked them what $25 could buy for their beloved on Valentine’s Day.

Four responded by producing beautiful bouquets and loose floral arrangements. They are Westminster-based The Cutting Garden, Woodbine’s Cattails Country Florist, Eldersburg’s Rippel’s Florist and Mount Airy-based Blossom & Basket Boutique.

Customers at Rippel’s Florist enjoy the loose flower bundles because they are custom-made and they can arrange them any way they wish, said Tammi Reider, Rippel’s floral designer. In the loose floral arrangement, Reider said, a daisy or carnation costs about $1 a stem. Because roses are in such demand for St, Valentine’s Day, they average between $5 and $6 a stem.

The “Double Dutch,” a popular bouquet at The Cutting Garden, features daisies, carnations and baby’s breath for $16.

“A lot of guys will add a rose or two “bringing the total to around $25, said the Cutting Garden’s owner, John King.

The Blossom & Basket Boutique offers two budget bouquets. A loose spring flower arrangement of daises, alstroemeria and lilies may be placed in a vase or wrapped in cellophane and gift paper.

Because delivery adds to the cost, the buyer must pick up most lower-priced floral bouquets. And for a surprise, said King, “You can have [the flowers] on the table at dinner.”
